This blog is about Maryam’s and Fatma’s first year of university.

Many students find the first year of university to be extremely stressful. How they deal with stress also determines how effective they are in their studies.Multiple things can happen during the transition from high school to university. The student’s sense of responsibility toward themselves, the society, and the future grows. The university is the first stage of gaining job experience, as well as the location where the student is educated and trained.Particularly because the student will be exposed to knowledge, discussions, research, and projects that are larger than those found in a small school environment. The move to the university level must be critical in order to face the future work and evaluate the extent of our capabilities in meeting the best.

My name is Maryam Ahmad Bintouq Almarri. I am 19 years old. This is my fourth semester at Zayed University. I am currently pursuing a degree in Communication & Media Science with a concentration on tourism and cultural communications. I first became a student at Zayed University when I was 17years old (2019), it started by studying General Studies on Dubai Womencampus.Meeting new friends, making memories outside of school life, falling and standing again, preparing my future, and reaching for a specific degree were all completely new experiences for me.

During my first year of university, I faced some obstacles, including tasks that are entirely dependent on the student, which is uncommon at school. I was also confused about selecting a major, and I later realized that specialization is determined by what an individual enjoys without being compelled to do so, as well as what they hope to work with in the future. Academic specialization, its relevance, and its timing differ from one university to another. At Zayed University, we study general subjects first, which makes us choose the right path for us. This choice assisted me in deciding on a major. What I liked the most of studying at university include the fact that the lessons are not the same as those in school, as the times vary are also flexible, and the student is free to coordinate the study schedule that is best for them. The university climate is similar to a small workplace. There are cafes and restaurants in the area. The student starts to delve into the mysteries of life. The university student will finally begin to explore life. As students, we normally start driving when we reach university and become more independet. All of that prepared me to reach hear today. Some of the things that I didn’t like about the first year, is that it was a new experience in terms of work and dealing. The schedule’s structure and the timing of the final due dates are often strained. Our job became to adapt to success, and here I am, having successfully completed the process.

My name is Fatma Al Haddad. I am at Zayed University in Communication & Media Science college. I am 19 years old. My first year at Zayed University was full of joy and happy moments. I don’t even know where to start my story, which will make me both sad and happy getting my best memories back. One year ago, I was accepted at Zayed University which makes me and my parents happy for the quick acceptance. At Zayed University, my childhood friends and I had a reunion after separated apart in 2011. The idea of being with them again is just something perfect. When it comes to the university courses we were together in few courses, and some are together in the same college. Also, in our free time, we all gather in Dubai District Design to have some coffee and finish our work together. Moreover, learning does not take place solely in the classroom. I’ve learned a lot from the relationships I’ve built. I’ve founded incredible bonds with the incredible people I’ve met this year. I’ve learned something new from each student. Also, I was able to stay on top of the work in my first year and perform well in the new environment.

I learned from university to take a risk and to work on myself. At Zayed University, I learned how to be independent. However, in my first semester, I was helping my friends, and they helped me a lot but still, I prefer self-study over group study. I genuinely love and enjoy university life more than anything, but it was one semester and a half because of covid 19, I’m so sad to see my first-year fly by so quickly, but I still am looking forward to the rest of my university career.

To those entering the first year, remember to take risks and break out of your surface because sometimes the best outcomes come from taking a risk you’re afraid of. My first year of university greatly exceeded my expectations. Zayed Unive is an excellent place to learn, and grow, and also to have fun surrounded by your friends.
